Civil discourse allows conversations around conflicting values and diverse perspectives (Practice C2) to persist until better understanding is achieved. It honors the place of others as equal members of a shared community. As journalist Malcolm Glover says in this TED Talk, recognizing that “the ‘I’ is a part of the ‘We’” is central to the task of identifying innovations in an increasingly interconnected world.
